Anatomy of an Evacuation – The Locals

EVACUATION DAY 1

Less than a half mile from our home, there was a little traffic jam. See those people hauling out their worldly goods?

Water, water everywhere, but not a boat on a lift! Well, except one. See it jacked way up high out of the water’s reach?

Crab fishermen worked diligently to get their crab traps out of the water and . . .

tied down in neat rows with lots of rope.

Shrimp boats tied to trees.

Shrimp boats tied to trees ACROSS the highway.

Shrimp boats all nestled and tied up together AND tied to trees.

Evacuation trip photos to be continued . . .

One of the bad things about having sons who work on boats is the work schedule. David, the oldest, works a 28 and 14 schedule–28 days on the boat and 14 days off. With Camp Dularge getting busier and busier, my time to enjoy bayou life is growing shorter and shorter it seems.  Okay, I’m not complaining, just saying, that’s all. Today was a typical Tuesday, except for this little surprise . . . in the bayou in front of the house.  Termite thinks this gator has been…
