You just never know . . .

At this stage of life, I truly don’t expect to have new experiences with people. I feel like I’ve been there and experienced all the nuances where people are concerned; but Tuesday morning’s swamp tour proved me wrong, and I was a passenger, not the captain.

How in the world did I spend the day in the engaging, charming company of an attractive actor without knowing? He called about a week ago asking me to take him on a Wetland Tour, not knowing I’m retired and had sold my tour boat. I recommended a local swamp tour, after which he asked if I might join them. The phone conversation led to his filming episodes for his “post-tragedy” documentary series, which we discussed at length.

Yesterday, I spent an entire day with this man and his beautiful family – as though we were old friends. The only thing he mentioned about acting was that he had starred in a Glen Pitre production years ago and dropped a DVD in my car of the movie. Yet still, I had not Googled him . . . until last night.

Never ever in my life would I have guessed from this man’s personality/behavior that he is currently acting in a series, not to mention the list of things in which he has previously acted. This lack of boasting on his part absolutely blew me away. I guess I’m recording it here to save this first-time-ever event as a once-in-a-lifetime event.

What a gem of a person. To protect his privacy on this “Bayou Life” family trip, I won’t say who he is; but to him I say thank you so much for keeping it real. During the swamp tour (their first) I took photos of him and the tour captain, of him and his family, but not once did I think of a selfie, nor did he. Honestly, I could kick myself for not having done so but not because he’s an actor, but because he’s an actor who is amazingly real.

And now I ask myself, “He’s just a human, so why am I so taken aback by his normal behavior?”

Hopefully more posts to come,

BW
