2019 Youth Angler of the Year Essay Contest – Grades 9-12

Okay, my Louisiana friends, if you know of a boy or girl in grades 9-12 who might have a memorable fishing trip about which they could write AND of which they have a photo, please share this information with them.  Please have them read the rules closely!  To inspire them, I’m revealing the prize this year . . . a Lifetime Fishing License and a ticket to the Louisiana Outdoor Writers Association Awards Banquet to be held in Morgan City on Saturday, August 10th!  Our guests always have a great time at this awards shindig!!!  Plus, we like to think that we might inspire young aspiring outdoor journalists!!!

Specifics below:

Essay Guidelines: Please write an essay about a memorable fishing trip in Louisiana. You may include
where you went, who you were with, what kind of bait you used, what kind of fishing you were
doing, and what you learned. Include descriptive details to develop the story. Your essay will be
judged for the heart of your story, not just on the writing style or grammar and spelling. Write an
essay that makes us feel like we were right there with you. Essay must be written between July 1,
2018 and June 30, 2019 to qualify. Registrant must be grades 9-12, a resident of Louisiana and must
be present to receive award.

Awards: One boy and girl Louisiana Youth Angler of the Year will be selected. Awards will be given
during the Louisiana Outdoor Writers Association Banquet August 10th in Morgan City, LA.

LOWA will pay the Awards Banquet fee for the student and two guests.
