By now, most of you have watched the most-watched show in the history of the History Channel, “Swamp People”. If you haven’t, then tune in this Thursday at 8:00 Central Time. These alligator hunters have become local heroes, and are just about as real as they come.
Okay, to some of you, dirty rice smacks of disgust–picturing rice you scooped up off the floor and used again, right? And what the heck are field peas, anyway? I mean, how generic can a pea be, right?
It’s a well known fact that the speckled trout migrate to the salty waters of the Gulf of Mexico to spawn, and that they begin to do so when water temps heat up in the late spring.
One of the bad things about having sons who work on boats is the work schedule. David, the oldest, works a 28 and 14 schedule–28 days on the boat and 14 days off. Daniel, next in line, works 14 and 7. I never know ahead of time if they will be off the boat to celebrate holidays and birthdays. So, we just get together when we can, especially when they are both off the boat at the same time.
Well, it looks like the folks from Butte Larose lucked out this time. The news says they are returning home after having evacuated a couple weeks ago ahead of the spillway flooding that was headed their way.
While the residents of the Atchafalaya Basin and Morganza Floodway breathe a collective sigh of relief, I do so with them. The Army Corps of Engineers had previously put for the worst case scenarios, and not it appears that the flooding will not be as bad nor as widespread as first anticipated.
