With the turmoil of Hurricane Isaac behind us and the “Ghost of Isaac” threatening to re-enter the Gulf, let’s ignore all that and once again reap the benefits of a local French-Cajun gentleman’s green thumb. Since we can’t actually stroll through his yard and garden today, let me bring the memory of his spring garden to you.
Good morning, friends, faithful readers, and first-timers. Do you feel neglected? If so, please accept my apology this morning. By way of explanation, just let me say that I’ve been digging my way out of a mountain of paperwork, now reduced to a molehill, while feeling a little puny all week. Puny. That’s a good word, a word my father used in reference to being just a little under the weather.
That is where I’ve been, and that’s why you’ve not heard much from me the past week. Well, I wasn’t gone a whole week, but I had lots of desk work to clear up before I could leave. Monday, I needed to rest and recuperate, so here I am with a little review of the highlights.
It all began at Big Al’s Seafood in Houma, Louisiana. It was a muggy hot Saturday afternoon, and with not a whole lot better to do, I decided to drive into town and check out the local casting call for the popular reality TV series Swamp People.

Well, it’s that time again. The final episode of Swamp People aired last Thursday night, with R.J. and Troy battling it out for the “King of the Swamp” bragging rights. Although there was never a big to do made over which one actually holds the title, the show would have us believe that both men filled their 500 alligator tag quotas. And if they did, well, good for them.
