Cherry Books
No, these are not books about cherries. Rather, it is the name of the neatest bookstore in the town of Thibodaux, LA. Thibodaux is a great college town. It has lots of old architecture and a French feeling. It is the first city I lived in when I journeyed to South Louisiana in 1978 and holds a special ambiance for me. So when Theresa invited me to read my book there and to sign afterwards, I was more than willing.
Cherry Books is a wonderfully warm place in a salvaged building. The building has a long story behind it about initially being built to become Cherry Shoe Store, with apartments upstairs. The owner’s college-aged children used the apartments, but the store didn’t make it. It must have come close because there were pairs of shoes still in the store after being vacant and neglected for 35 years. Theresa used the old shoes as decor on the top shelves in one adult book alcove. They look like they just came out of the box. I think some of today’s girls would kill for those shoes. (Afterthought – I should have photographed them for you. Sorry.)

Does this pic hurt your eyes? It does mine. The brick patterns look really weird from this angle. I could not see that through the lens. Hmmmm. Interesting.

Okay, at the risk of sounding like a complete geek, that is sooo cool! I’m a weaver, and it looks just like a twill pattern to me.

It’s crazy you couldn’t see that pattern in your lens. I can’t look at it for very long but you snapped a good picture. You should send it to Parade magazine. They’re always holding contests. Love it.
I’d love to tell you that I did see that through the lens and planned it just that way, but I’d be, well, LYING!!!
I held a book signing for Woody at Cherry Books last month and was about to write about it in my blog, googled the name and found your great site! I am of the same opinion, more people should learn about the fantastic store!
