Location Scout

If you’ve been keeping up, you know that we’ve been down with the creeping crud this week. I went back to bed this morning but jumped out of bed at the ringing of the land line around 8:30 a.m. It was the head of tourism wanting to know if I could help a “film location scout” find a location for an educational film crew working on a segment having to do with special ways of restoring the coast of Louisiana for Discovery Channel.

WOW! That was a shot in the arm! I was dressed and out the door with camera bag and tissue box in a flash.

They wanted to either wade or boat into a dead cypress swamp. Well, everyone around here knows we have miles of dead cypress–just take your pick. My first choice for them was a curve in a back road, which just happens to be illustrated on the back cover of my book.

The second choice was way on the other side of a pasture.

The third choice, and favorite, was one that required a boat to get into. One of my charter captain friends has just the right shallow-draft boat that would get them where they wanted to be.

Even in their death, the cypress swamps are still a thing of beauty, sad though they are.

Gee, I guess this means I have to go back to the Wendy Who page and add “film location scout” to the list. Or maybe not.
