In the dark of night, on a lonely road . . . part 2

It seems only a few people have read part one of this little spell binder, so I think I’ll just give you one more hint and then the rest some time on Monday, perhaps! Is that cruel? No, I can’t do that to you.

In Cajun French Bon Temp means “Good Times”. That means the item has something to do with the Cajun heritage. Debbi is right, of course. And Heather knows what I received but not what I offered to him. Believe me, I got the better end of this trade. All he got was a pot of wetland grass called Vetiver. And here’s what I got . . .

But it’s more than just a flower. It’s a hibiscus. But much more than that. It’s a “Cajun Hibiscus” hybridized by Grandfather Dupont of Plaquemine, LA . He literally designed this flower and many other unique blooms, with charming names like Beauvie, Acadian Spring, Moonlight Madness, and Voo Doo Queen.

I have decided I want one of each, and there are about 50 of them. Well, maybe I won’t get all 50, but I’d like a couple more. I have to find a local nursery that carries them, because my friend sells wholesale only!

Want to see more of her?

And again? I never tire of the beauty of these 7-inch blooms. The plant is only two feet tall. Can you believe it? And Dupont was right, the bloom has faded, but there are plenty of buds to look forward to. She’s still in my kitchen, too.

If you’d like to see more of these lovely darlings, visit the Dupont Plant Nursery website and drool along with me! So I just want to say to Dupont, thanks again! I am so proud to be the owner of one of Grandpa’s Cajun Hibiscus! I really do love it!

  1. And what will he do with his vetiver? That’s gorgeous – even more beautiful than the one depicted on his website.

He wants to experiment with it. I’m not sure what all he will use it for. I have a small idea, but don’t think I should divulge his ideas via the www! I guess it will just have to be part of the mystery!

  2. Stunning! I have a yellow hibiscus but not anywhere near as beautiful as that baby. I’m going to check at my local nursery down the road to inquire about some Duponts.

  3. Thank you for the link on where to buy these!

Lauri, they only sell wholesale, but he told me that if you order 6 and pay for shipping, then you can get 6! Other than that, check with local nurseries to see if they do or would carry them.

  4. Is that Jazz’s tail in the background of the top photo?

No, that’s a white scrub brush with a feather behind it in the kitchen window!
