Wings of pink
make me think what a wonderful life we live in the Louisiana wetlands. Anchored in a dead-end canal, fishing on the bottom with cut mullet (provided by Bayou Fabio), a Bayou Woman reader, her hubby, and I bird watched while we wet a line. As we left the unproductive fishing spot, the birds were stirred…
Picking up the Pieces after Hurricane Ike
This post is going to sound like I am all brave and on top of the situation, but I assure you I AM NOT. LilSis has been manning the helm while BigSis has been holding down the home port, preparing supper meals for us and caring for my two sons (in addition to her large…
New category coming soon . . .
. . . called Fruit of the Womb. I know it sounds really corny, but I have been bearing and rearing children since I found out I was expecting in February 1982. These fruits have been and are still a very big part of my life and have helped shape the good parts of the…
Grilled Red Fish on the Half-Shell
What do you do on a cold, windy Friday when the trout aren’t biting? You drift the banks for red fish in hopes they will bite. As fishing luck would have it, two fish reached the end of the line (no pun intended) and made it into the boat. They are a beautiful bronze color…
Grand Isle Ladies’ Fishing Rodeo – 6th Annual
A line from “Steel Magnolias” went through my head more than once while watching the participants of the Sixth Annual Grand Isle Ladies Fishing Rodeo arrive dockside at Bridgeside Marina Saturday afternoon, “The whole sanctuary looks like it’s been drenched in Pepto-bismol!” Not only is pink the signature color of the main character of said movie, but it’s also the signature color of anything having to do with Breast Cancer Awareness, and believe me, there’s no way anyone could attend this magnificent event and not be aware.
Boiled Shrimp
And I’m not talking about crawfish, either! My good friend BB came down this week, after our first of two wonderful fishing trips (post and pics later, Tar Baby, et. al.) we were starving, so we drove down the bayou and bought some shrimp fresh off the boat. Don’t want to make you folks jealous,…
Eagle
Well, we know it ain’t a gator nest. (tee hee)
It is an eagle or hawks nest. Something new I’ve learned – out west where there are no trees (desert), the ravens build their nests on the top of utility poles. Their nest look surprisingly like a large hawk’s nest.
I need an email from you!!!
HeatherHere wants to know if it’s a contest.
I knew someone would wonder if this was a contest!! No, it’s not a precursor to a contest!
Its a Harpy nest.
What Greek myth are you from?
That there is an eagles nest atop of a cypress tree. Is there any current residents, perhaps knitting any tiny eagle booties? emmm…do eagle chicks wear booties? questions have to be asked…..lol
Deb
Yep, there the little woman was, sitting on her nest, knitting a tiny eagle bootie, while the daddy was out hunting!
Is that anything like socks on a rooster?
