Foiled Plans at Camp Dularge

I had planned to post tonight that the sewage treatment plant was installed all shiny new and waiting for its first deposits! LOL!  Alas, Fate had other plans.

The sewage treatment guy called bright and early, and I dropped my fishing pole to ride up and take photos of the process.  Before I could say “smile for the camera” they had the Bobcat off the truck and the cover off the old sewage site.

Old Sewage Site Filled In

That was the good news.  They quickly filled it in with dirt that Barry’s crew left behind.

Then they began moving the rest of that hill of dirt underneath the house to help me out–since I would be doing it with a shovel and wheel barrow.

Cracked Pivot Pin

On the second scoop, the pivot pin broke on the bracket that holds the bucket.  Bad news and somebody said a bad word.  After several phone calls, no welder was available to fix the problem.

Bobcat Leaving

So as quickly as they arrived, they were gone with the hope they would be back on Monday, if it didn’t rain.  Great.  What do you think is in the forecast?

Broken Cement

I looked around and noticed there were still piles of debris  where the carpenters are going to build the back steps, so I donned my work gloves, grabbed the shovel and wheelbarrow and got after it.  My friend Lauren came from across the bayou and helped me with the biggest chunks!  Thanks!

The carpenters are supposed to start Monday.  I’ll keep you posted!

With an aching back,

BW

those lonely pilings still waiting out there in the foggy morning . . . I went inside to get some coffee thought I heard the sound of a wood pecker. I went outside and sure enough, out front on the utility pole, was a red bellied woodpecker going at it. Soon after, I heard some much louder pecking in the backyard.

    Double Trouble!

We wound our way up a curvy bayou, looking for fishy water, and around the second curve she spotted a fishy-looking current line running from the western bank across the middle of the bayou and around the curve. We drifted in, and not long after she slung her bright yellow popping cork, it disappeared below the surface.

“F I S H O N!” Patti yelled with as much enthusiasm as a die-hard football fan screaming “TOUCHDOWN!”, and I was as happy for her as she was about reeling in that yellow-mouthed speckled trout.

We continued to pull in fish every few minutes at that spot until boat traffic scattered the fish, making them too spotty to find. Trolling on up the bayou, we cast around a few points that looked like ideal spots for trout to be hanging out waiting for bait fish. However, none of those spots were as profitable as our first stop.

Once we traveled to the end of my GPS bread crumb line and farther than I had ever explored before, we tested the waters. Nothing. We looked for cuts in the marsh, where the bait-filled water flowed into the bayou, carrying the unsuspecting bait to the bigger fish that awaited. We fished a couple of those spots without much luck.

  • Crabby Women!

Not in the way you might think, though. Five adventurous ladies from four states showed up Friday afternoon ready and raring to get started on their bayou adventure, even without knowing what that entailed. I was hoping they would be “all in” with whatever I would throw their way, and they didn’t disappoint!

  1. They didn’t need a welder. Everybody knows “Duct Tape” can fix anything! We keep a large supply in various colors to make our repairs. LOL

  2. Oh man! Don’t things like this make ya bananas sometimes? Of course with what you’ve had to deal with you probably don’t let yourself get worked up too much, huh? It’s just not worth it. Hang in there.
I agree with Steffi. Duct tape fixes everything. Doesn’t it? That’s how I was raised.

  3. Dang It!!! There is nothing more frustraiting to a hard working feller, than a busted bucket – or tool! LOL. If we lived closer, my boys would have been over in a heartbeat – they are good like that! I will send good thoughts for you back and a couple prayers too!! LOL

  4. I feel like I am watching the middle of a much anticipated TV mini series! One thing after another! 🙂

How’s the back? Ouch! That would have definitely been a wee bit painful!

  5. I can weld. Seriously. Stop laughing. I would have helped (or hindered) if I lived closer!

I was just whining that I hadn’t ran my sweeper in days and then read your blog. You make me look like a sloth….I hope MrCoach never reads this blog lol!
