Marsh fishing and another first!
The only thing that can ruin a fishing trip in the marsh besides rain is too much wind coming from the wrong direction. The NW wind, along with the falling tide, pushed the water out of the marsh way too fast. There were places we had to use the trolling motor to get in and…
"I hope you have flood insurance" & "Flooding worse than Rita"
The first is a quote from Bayou Fabio, who called at 12:30 a.m. to tell me that there was two feet of water over the highway, and the wind was still pushing the water in. You must understand that the highway is already “higher” than ground level where our homes are built. The second is…
Softer Side of Hunting
Even as a child, I liked to wander unexplored territories, as much as that was possible growing up in a subdivision. It was nothing for me to jump the backyard fence, cross the concrete ditch, and shimmy under the barbed wire in order to explore the field behind the house. As I grew older and with a bicycle as my free ride, I went as far as my imagination and legs could take me, which was often to a pecan tree-filled lot beside the junior high school.
Loose Strings and Fried Trout
It seems September came and went without much ado from me. I’m pretty sure it’s because last September, I was like a zombie, sans the green pallor and blood-soaked clothing. I didn’t really want to celebrate the one-year anniversary of storm flooding. However, the lasting impact has me struggling on a daily basis. For new…

Have to disqualify myself from this one. I’ve got two myself. I hung one on the wall. I’ve also purchased this same item as a wedding gift for several fishermen and women.
Yep, I coulda guesses that! I haven’t used this one yet, so tell me, does the cornbread come out looking like fish?
That is a cast-iron cornbread pan, to make fishy cornbread! So kitschy! And so southern! I love it!
Isn’t it just the cutest thing? My friend from Mississippi came down last week and gave it to me as a “camp warming” gift!
BW your readers are just too smart to pull one over on!
By the way, thanks for letting me stay at Camp Dularge this weekend. I enjoyed the visit and the fun! You’ll soon be booked up with fisher men and women! What fun!
P.S. You might want to post a pic of that huge ‘gator we saw on our adventures for everyone to see.
You are very welcome! It was great having you! I thought the pics would go along with the “joint” sister post we’re supposed to write???
BW, the fish do come out shaped like a fish. Don’t expect to see all the details though. Just make sure to “season” that cast iron GOOD, even if it’s already pre-seasoned. When you fill the fish be careful not to over fill them. It’s much easier to remove the baked fish.
I love cast iron pans… anyone seen a pumpkin one?
