Bayou Blooms
Well, lots of folks from Denham Springs westward to Crowley are now getting down to the nitty gritty of dealing with the flooding aftermath. I don’t envy those unfortunate souls one bit. As I said, been there, done that, and hope not to do it again anytime soon. I know that sounds selfish, but this…

Got Milk?
A PHOTO STORY OF THE FURRY KIND! Photos by Termite WARNING: Prepare to have your heart stolen. “Got milk? I’m all out!”

Got Gustav? Got Gators?
Thank all of you have emailed or called knowing that I don’t watch the news every day. In years past, we didn’t even have TV so others had to call us and warn us. I remember being out near the Gulf fishing when a friend of mine called and told me I better get home…
Picking up trash promotes pride on the bayou!
There’s just not a whole lot I can say about picking up trash. It’s dirty work. However, there’s a heck of a lot I can say about litter and those who can’t get it through their thick heads to take their trash home with them rather than throw it into the bayou.

Fish on the Half-Shell and Fried Flounder
I’m sure today you are too full of smothered cabbage and black-eyed peas and cornbread to be tempted by this post, but one day you will hopefully be inspired to grill up some fillets or fry some whole fish, the old-fashioned pan-fried way.
Great Blue Heron Contest Winners!
Everyone who attempted to answer the question(s) was entered in a drawing for the prizes. First the names went on two lists: The Lurkers on the top half of the page, and The Veterans on the bottom. Then I printed the list, cut the names in strips, and folded them in fourths. Next, I put…

Yep, I coulda guesses that! I haven’t used this one yet, so tell me, does the cornbread come out looking like fish?
That is a cast-iron cornbread pan, to make fishy cornbread! So kitschy! And so southern! I love it!
Isn’t it just the cutest thing? My friend from Mississippi came down last week and gave it to me as a “camp warming” gift!
BW your readers are just too smart to pull one over on!
By the way, thanks for letting me stay at Camp Dularge this weekend. I enjoyed the visit and the fun! You’ll soon be booked up with fisher men and women! What fun!
P.S. You might want to post a pic of that huge ‘gator we saw on our adventures for everyone to see.
You are very welcome! It was great having you! I thought the pics would go along with the “joint” sister post we’re supposed to write???
BW, the fish do come out shaped like a fish. Don’t expect to see all the details though. Just make sure to “season” that cast iron GOOD, even if it’s already pre-seasoned. When you fill the fish be careful not to over fill them. It’s much easier to remove the baked fish.
I love cast iron pans… anyone seen a pumpkin one?
