I’m not sure if you, my friends and readers, have access to cable TV, or satellite TV, or the weather channel, but I’m sure you have access to weather websites. This image comes from Weather Underground, where you can visit and click on a box to see anything about this storm you’d like to see. …
Anatomy of an Evacuation – The Locals
EVACUATION DAY 1 Less than a half mile from our home, there was a little traffic jam. See those people hauling out their worldly goods? Water, water everywhere, but not a boat on a lift! Well, except one. See it jacked way up high out of the water’s reach? Crab fishermen worked diligently to get…
Isaac's on the way . . .
. . . and he’s not receiving a warm welcome. As my friend and fellow blogger, Shoreacres mentioned to me in an email, we are hoping this is not the “Ghost of Isaac”, the storm that flattened everything on Galveston Island, TX so many years ago. But let’s not be thinking that way.
Father’s Day Tribute
William Walter Wilson was born November 21, 1929, less than a month after Black Tuesday, and the beginning of The Great Depression in America. Although he never really harped on how difficult life was during the depression, I now wish that he had and that I had paid attention. Oh, there were bits and pieces…
Chaoui hears the Call of the Wild
The words of the old song, “She’s gone, gone, gone, and I can’t go on . . .whoaohoh” keep running through my mind. My coon-raising friend said she would hear and heed the call of the wild by November. He was right. I miss her kid glove hands, her ultra-soft underbelly, the myriad squeaks and…
WARNING: Don't go into the water. Really?
Yes, really and truly. I’m not kidding you, and neither is the Louisiana state Department of Health and Hospitals when they put out a warning about high levels of a certain dangerous bacteria in coastal Louisiana swimming holes.

Have to disqualify myself from this one. I’ve got two myself. I hung one on the wall. I’ve also purchased this same item as a wedding gift for several fishermen and women.
Yep, I coulda guesses that! I haven’t used this one yet, so tell me, does the cornbread come out looking like fish?
That is a cast-iron cornbread pan, to make fishy cornbread! So kitschy! And so southern! I love it!
Isn’t it just the cutest thing? My friend from Mississippi came down last week and gave it to me as a “camp warming” gift!
BW your readers are just too smart to pull one over on!
By the way, thanks for letting me stay at Camp Dularge this weekend. I enjoyed the visit and the fun! You’ll soon be booked up with fisher men and women! What fun!
P.S. You might want to post a pic of that huge ‘gator we saw on our adventures for everyone to see.
You are very welcome! It was great having you! I thought the pics would go along with the “joint” sister post we’re supposed to write???
BW, the fish do come out shaped like a fish. Don’t expect to see all the details though. Just make sure to “season” that cast iron GOOD, even if it’s already pre-seasoned. When you fill the fish be careful not to over fill them. It’s much easier to remove the baked fish.
I love cast iron pans… anyone seen a pumpkin one?
