I just love wood!
Don’t you? It’s versatile. (meaning: so many uses) You can heat your home with it. You can cook with it. You can pick your teeth with it. You can paddle a ball with it (or a hiney wink wink just kidding) You can measure with it (yard sticks and rulers) You can play basketball on…
Meet Ms. Orchid Tree
I have to admit, prior to happening upon this beauty on a walk behind Camp Dularge about a month ago, I have neither seen nor heard of a tree like this. Ms. Orchid must love the climate here, as the owner explained he had to cut it away from the house a couple years ago,…
Wild Hibiscus
This flower is locally called “wild hibiscus”. The book I use as for identification is Wildflowers of Louisiana and Adjoining States (out of print). It says this flower is from the “mallow family”. This Web site calls them “rose mallow” or “swamp mallow”. http://home.howstuffworks.com/rose-mallow-swamp-mallow.htm So, those of you who had any of the above words…
Oven Jambalaya – Easy and Delicious!
THEY WILL SCRAPE THE POT CLEAN! I swear it. This is not your typical bayou jambalaya, nor is this your typical Cajun or even Creole jambalaya. This jambalaya knows no such boundaries. This is (almost) a no-fail jambalaya. If you can open a can, use a measuring cup, turn on the oven, slice sausage, and…

You can't get a man with a gun!
Who says so? Annie Oakley, that’s who. Quite the contrary, I found about a dozen men with guns this past weekend. On a whim, I did a search for those old lyrics, the tune running through my mind, and was quite entertained by the verses. She didn’t say she couldn’t FIND a man with a…
Have to disqualify myself from this one. I’ve got two myself. I hung one on the wall. I’ve also purchased this same item as a wedding gift for several fishermen and women.
Yep, I coulda guesses that! I haven’t used this one yet, so tell me, does the cornbread come out looking like fish?
That is a cast-iron cornbread pan, to make fishy cornbread! So kitschy! And so southern! I love it!
Isn’t it just the cutest thing? My friend from Mississippi came down last week and gave it to me as a “camp warming” gift!
BW your readers are just too smart to pull one over on!
By the way, thanks for letting me stay at Camp Dularge this weekend. I enjoyed the visit and the fun! You’ll soon be booked up with fisher men and women! What fun!
P.S. You might want to post a pic of that huge ‘gator we saw on our adventures for everyone to see.
You are very welcome! It was great having you! I thought the pics would go along with the “joint” sister post we’re supposed to write???
BW, the fish do come out shaped like a fish. Don’t expect to see all the details though. Just make sure to “season” that cast iron GOOD, even if it’s already pre-seasoned. When you fill the fish be careful not to over fill them. It’s much easier to remove the baked fish.
I love cast iron pans… anyone seen a pumpkin one?
