How do you feel about public bathing?

Hey, Blondie, where’s all the grub?

Hey, what are YOU looking at? Don’t just sit there staring at me! Go get my bathwater ready!

Could you get me a snack while I check out the bathtub?

Hmmmm, it looks clean enough.

Let me ease on in here and check out the water temp.

Ahhhhhh, that’s just what my aching wings were needing

Hey, can’t a bird get a little privacy?

I thought I told you to go get me a snack! Whatcha waitin’ for, huh?

Oh yea, that’s it. A little splash here, a big splash there . . .

Oh, ah, now I got it.

No, Red-winged blackbird, it ain’t your turn yet! Buzz off!

Ok. The line’s getting kinda long. I’ll just shake off here a little . . .

And finish drying off at the feeding table.

Hey, blondie, thanks for the Bird Stop!

See ya next spring!

Even as a child, I liked to wander unexplored territories, as much as that was possible growing up in a subdivision. It was nothing for me to jump the backyard fence, cross the concrete ditch, and shimmy under the barbed wire in order to explore the field behind the house. As I grew older and with a bicycle as my free ride, I went as far as my imagination and legs could take me, which was often to a pecan tree-filled lot beside the junior high school.

At the end of 2017, I decided my mantra for 2018 would be “The Year of Positive Change”.  Well, I’ve come to learn that “positive change” is a relative term, and in the wise words of those who came before me:  “Be careful what you ask for”.  But because I so firmly believe in my…

    Off the Hook!

Spring is full speed ahead on the bayou with summer quickly approaching. With so many other obligations, both paying and non-paying, it seems that my blog posts have been few and far between. Sometimes I put too much pressure on myself to come up with something witty and entertaining, when maybe you are content just to read about what’s going on in everyday bayou life. Like good friends do, we should just share what’s happening on a regular basis, right?

  1. Ha! I love these photos! Makes me think of using them in a slide show to music such as “Splish Splash, I was taking a bath.”

  2. Wow! These are gorgeous pictures! They would be so beautiful framed! Love them!

Thanks, Trish. Do you think one might be worthy of a contest prize?

  3. One more time? Please tell me the correct name of the HUGE woodpeckers that are about 2 feet tall, or more, with a ruffle around their necks.

See? I’m not the only admirer of your photos that think they should be framed (or made into a book).

I love that you understand what the critters are “saying” and “thinking”. Right on target!

I’m not sure. The ones I”ve seen here lately are about a foot tall, but I didn’t notice a ruffle. They are called a Pileated woodpeckers.

  4. I did the google thing and couldn’t find anything there. I’ve seen them many times and so has my youngest, so I know they exist! I’ll keep searching.
