Louisiana Outdoor Writers Annual Conference
I just got back and will give you a full report as soon as I can. I’m tired, so it won’t be tonight. Also, I will be scouting for trout first thing in the a.m. Tuesday morning: Report for Jury Duty for the first time in my life. If I get chosen, I hope it’s…
I've been tagged . . . or "How weird are you, anyway?"
My LilSis is playing tag with me, and I’m it. OK, here’s what I’m understanding about this. Someone tagged her, and she listed 7 weird things about herself on her blog, and then she tagged some other weirdos or nerds (depending on how you look at it) to do the same. She tagged our BigSis,…
What in the world is going on?
or The Ugly Side of Spring Down the Bayou! This is under the awning at my front door. Do you have any idea what they are? I don’t know about where you live, but we are being invaded by these things we call blind mosquitoes. I kid you not. Their real name is aquatic midge,…
Vote for your favorite photo!
Below are four photos taken in the Mauvais Bois Swamp, one of the most beautiful spots in Terrebonne Parish, and my personal favorite place. Would you do me a big favor? Please take a moment and examine all four photos, then please vote for your favorite and tell us what you like about it. “Mosslight”…
You Can’t Always Get What You Want . . .
But if you try sometime, you just might find you get what you need. Oh that these lyrics from a popular Rolling Stones song could become the mantra behind the commercial and recreational fishermen who share the inland and coastal waters of south Louisiana, the fate of which will soon be decided in the House vote for the 2012 State Master Plan for Coastal Restoration and Protection.
A legislative update on SB 744
Not that everyone, or even anyone for that matter, is interested in an update, but I’m OCD about continuums and leaving people hanging. Just one week after launching into making sure this bill does not become law as written, an official of the LDWF wrote me an email that this bill WILL BE EDITED in…

Wow! Is this a rat snake?
Yes, that would be correct! I think it was thinking about eating some kitten.
…..O….M….G…!!!!!…….T.h.u….d! Don’t care how long I live down here…I never get used to those things…also knowing it’s dead…just seeing termite holding it…my skin is crawling with the shivers…ok..just breathe…
I pulled a copperhead out from under my push mower prior to starting it this week..but it was only 7-8 inches…I mowed my lawn on my tippy toes mind you….You have found my weakness…and it’s ssssssssnakes! I can’t quite looking at that young man holding it….I have watched them climbing trees, seen them sleeping in holes in the ground, slithering off patio roofs, and dug them up with potatoes…They are E V E R Y W H E R E….but I can’t get used to them!!! uuuugh…errrh..thanks for sssharing…(Termite..go wash your hands baby!!!!)
Deb in Tx, with one shakey cup of coffee…shhhezzzzzzzz
Yea, I’m with you, Deb. I hate to kill a non-poisonous snake, but this one startled him and the big yellow dog, and yes he did use his Christmas present on it. Watch out for those copperheads, though.
Hope Termite used his Christmas present on “God’s one mistake”.
Yes, he surely did!
Yikes. I try to maintain an agreement with the snakes around our place: you stay outside of our property lines, and I won’t kill you. Unless you’re a copperhead, and then all bets are off.
Yeah, I just remembered, I can’t come down the bayou… ever… again. *shudder* Where WAS that?! And it’s a king snake, right?
Oh… missed the first comment. Rat snake. I can see it now. I’m going to have to adopt ALL those little kitties!
Please, please please come get the kitties. Better yet, I’ll drop them off with a bag of food, and Muzicman will just think they belong to the big white house next door, where they ALWAYS have cats, right? Hey, that sounds like a good plan!
It’s the water moccasins from the pond across the road that I REALLY hate to find in my yard! Big, black ugly vipers.
You go, Termite!!!!
Cuz, we don’t tolerate water moccasins here AT ALL!
