TiDu (tee doo) the Herd Dog!
Once upon a time, there was a little mutt puppy born right before a big hurricane. Her family had to pack up and leave, and so the little puppy went with them. When the family returned to their home, it was time for the little puppy to leave her family and go live with a…
Boiled Crawfish
During a busy weekend like this one, you have to start calling a day in advance to find nice crawfish, and then hope they will reserve you a couple sacks. That’s about 70 pounds. This isn’t the weekend the price will be low, either. Remember, it’s still during Lent, and the price won’t really go…
“Cajun Navy” Rescues Flood Victims
The rains in south Louisiana began on Friday, August 12, and the flooding followed only hours later. Cities like Lafayette, Denham Springs, Baton Rouge, and almost every part in between flooded, and the water continued to rise as the rains continued to fall throughout the weekend. With as much as 31 inches of rain in…

Okay, ladies and gents, it’s time for an easy new dish AND time to give away a little prize! Have you ever stopped to ponder just how marvelous is a potato? I mean, they come in all colors, shapes, and sizes. And in the old days, they could be kept for months in a…
Lessons from the Boiling Pot
Springtime down the bayou signals that it’s time to enjoy not only the weather but one of our cultural trademarks–the crawfish boil.
Wrapping it Up!
I’m determined in 2013 to tune in more to what my sons are listening to and watching than worrying about how many folks have LIKED the Bayou Woman page on Facebook, as though those LIKES equal dollars in the bank. I am determined to lean more on the Giver of all Gifts for the wisdom to know how to best care for the Gifts I’ve been given–to know which ones are worth keeping, which ones can be re-gifted, and which ones are not even worthy of the scrap pile.
Wow! Is this a rat snake?
Yes, that would be correct! I think it was thinking about eating some kitten.

Deb in Tx, with one shakey cup of coffee…shhhezzzzzzzz
Yea, I’m with you, Deb. I hate to kill a non-poisonous snake, but this one startled him and the big yellow dog, and yes he did use his Christmas present on it. Watch out for those copperheads, though.
Hope Termite used his Christmas present on “God’s one mistake”.
Yes, he surely did!
Yikes. I try to maintain an agreement with the snakes around our place: you stay outside of our property lines, and I won’t kill you. Unless you’re a copperhead, and then all bets are off.
Yeah, I just remembered, I can’t come down the bayou… ever… again. *shudder* Where WAS that?! And it’s a king snake, right?
Oh… missed the first comment. Rat snake. I can see it now. I’m going to have to adopt ALL those little kitties!
Please, please please come get the kitties. Better yet, I’ll drop them off with a bag of food, and Muzicman will just think they belong to the big white house next door, where they ALWAYS have cats, right? Hey, that sounds like a good plan!
It’s the water moccasins from the pond across the road that I REALLY hate to find in my yard! Big, black ugly vipers.
You go, Termite!!!!
Cuz, we don’t tolerate water moccasins here AT ALL!
