Excuse me, ma'am, is that a raccoon on your desk?
Well, I do believe it is a raccoon!!! And a youngun at that! Can it be? Are we once again blessed with a baby coon to replace our precious Chaoui? It would be so grand to be an animal mother. They don’t have to wait years to get another chance to “raise a child”. Chaoui…

Hurricake Ike – Our Home Part 2
Ideally, when cutting out paneling or sheetrock/drywall, you would go up the wall a few feet and make it look presentable by wainscoting. However, we are not making long-lasting repairs to our home. WHY NOT? you might be wondering. And I’m wondering if it’s time to blog you down in all the details as to…
It's a dirty job . . .
but somebody’s gotta do it and I love taking them to do it! We meet early in the morning at the landing . . . Load up all the volunteer planters and all the plants and chests of water During the hour-long journey, we see some interesting sights–especially if you’ve never been to coastal Louisiana…
Dularge Dynasty
Reader Paulette returned to her home bayou and emailed me this photo of her better half in a duck blind down here somewhere around Bayou Dularge. It’s a beautiful early-morning photo, taken from her I-phone, and I wanted to share it with you.
Dolphins and a Contest!
Those of a particular generation acquired their first and only knowledge of dolphins through Flipper, the mid-1960s TV series about a precocious dolphin and its relationship with an adolescent boy. In the series, Flipper exhibited high intelligence and an extraordinary understanding of human motives, behavior, and vocabulary. This trained dolphin’s abilities, we now know, reflected the…
Wow! Is this a rat snake?
Yes, that would be correct! I think it was thinking about eating some kitten.

Deb in Tx, with one shakey cup of coffee…shhhezzzzzzzz
Yea, I’m with you, Deb. I hate to kill a non-poisonous snake, but this one startled him and the big yellow dog, and yes he did use his Christmas present on it. Watch out for those copperheads, though.
Hope Termite used his Christmas present on “God’s one mistake”.
Yes, he surely did!
Yikes. I try to maintain an agreement with the snakes around our place: you stay outside of our property lines, and I won’t kill you. Unless you’re a copperhead, and then all bets are off.
Yeah, I just remembered, I can’t come down the bayou… ever… again. *shudder* Where WAS that?! And it’s a king snake, right?
Oh… missed the first comment. Rat snake. I can see it now. I’m going to have to adopt ALL those little kitties!
Please, please please come get the kitties. Better yet, I’ll drop them off with a bag of food, and Muzicman will just think they belong to the big white house next door, where they ALWAYS have cats, right? Hey, that sounds like a good plan!
It’s the water moccasins from the pond across the road that I REALLY hate to find in my yard! Big, black ugly vipers.
You go, Termite!!!!
Cuz, we don’t tolerate water moccasins here AT ALL!
