Marsh Grass Planting on TE-44
or . . . a day in the marsh with the wind, the water, and wild teenagers! What in the world is a marsh grass planting? Well, I’m about to tell you. When a restoration project is undertaken, there is “new soil” that needs to be planted in order to be kept from washing away. Sometimes,…
Happy Thanksgiving Day, Everyone!
Last year we talked about holiday traditions and our favorite dishes. This year, I would like you to tell us the dish that you absolutely hated as a child. And a dish that you could easily leave OFF the T-day menu as a grownup. Then, please share with us the ONE DISH that means Thanksgiving…
Short, quick fishing trip!
Headed out about as early as I could to the honey hole BB, Diane, and I blasted about a month ago. We pulled limits of reds out of there on consecutive mornings in June, plus a few bass. The water was looking very fishy when I pulled up. As I threw down the Cajun anchor,…
Crawfish Etouffee
Pronounced a-too-fay, it doesn’t really matter how you say it, just as long as you cook some and try it out! Crawfish really aren’t fish at all, as you well know, but rather they are arthropods. Yep, you read that right. From the same family as spiders and probably the reason some folks refer…
Wade Fishing at Coon Point
First off, I’m going to make my excuses. I was stuck in the anchored boat, facing the sun, so these pics do not do justice to the beauty of this place on this particular morning. They boys started fishing around 7 a.m. and started catching trout right away on this bait . . .
Our First Youth Waterfowl Day
It was 4 a.m. Time to get up, and my youngest son was on his feet instantly. Everything was ready by the door for Termite’s first Youth Waterfowl Day. The early morning was dark and chilly, still and quiet. As we loaded the boat, the gear made echoing sounds that bounced around on the camps across the…

Creepy! But, it’s a good photo.
Food Chain. Momma Nature’s sacred circle of life.
I luv the coming autumn season when spider webs dripping jewels of dew sparkles in the early morning sun.
So the banana spiders are out already? Must be time for fall!
Yes, Kim, isn’t it amazing? One morning this week I walked outside to the absence of humidity and the sky had a green aura like after a hurricane. I sensed the earth had tilted slightly; and now sunrise is after 6 a.m., not before.
Ooooh, I know they are necessary in the great scheme of things – but I HATE spiders! My sympathies are all with the locust. They have such a short life anyway, seems terrible to shorten it further!
I look forward to the first song of the cicada high in the live oak trees signaling the onslaught of summer; and then before you know it, the banana spider webs extend between the branches of the same oak trees, trapping the beautiful cicadas for food.
Noisy little buggers !!
One of my lovely memories of my indoor Siamese centers around a locust. She was sitting on the second floor balcony (which fronted a small, tree-lined creek) outside the kitchen, when she suddenly darted back in. You could almost hear her saying, “See, Momma, I told you I could catch a bird!” A locust had literally flown head first into her mouth and its wings were flapping on each side of her jaws. She was so upset with me when I took it away and released it!
Great story, Joan!
