Bayou Woman Bracelet
Hopefully by now you’ve woken up from your tryptophan coma enough to check back in with the world of the wide awake! We had a great Thanksgiving with all our children here except for one. The food was delicious, and the fellowship even better. The most exciting thing happened right after Thanksgiving, though. I…
The Assorted Nuts Crack Up the Bayou!
They call themselves The Assorted Nuts, and they hail from Pineville, Louisiana. From the Amazing Almond to the Wonder Woman Walnut, (WWW), they were a bowful of fun and more during their Bayou Woman Adventure (BWA).
Shall we build a house?
Well, shall we? Back in 2004 I started researching building a metal building to live in. I know it sounds more than strange– it sounds weird and commercial. And that is exactly what every building contractor I contacted told me: We don’t do residential metal buildings. My online research led me to a couple of…
Let's put out some alligator lines!
Before we start, let’s pray for the families of those who died on 9/11/01. Amen. WARNING: If you are against the taking of any creature for any reason, then please do us both a favor and click away to something more your style! Bayou life is rough and real, and I portray it as it…
Whoopie Pie Cake
Whoopie Pie Cake. It sounds strange, I know. And of course, there’s a back story, but I can’t lay claim to having named this sinfully rich dessert concoction. But doesn’t it look delicious? If you’ve spent any time on this blog, you already know that I’ve always marched a little out of step with current…
BW at a loss for words?
Last month was a December for the record books — rainiest ever. The past three days and the weekend to come might be record-breaking cold days. And neither of those facts has contributed positively to the lifestyle of BW. Therefore, BW has almost nothing to write about and finds herself at such a loss that…
Creepy! But, it’s a good photo.
Food Chain. Momma Nature’s sacred circle of life.
I luv the coming autumn season when spider webs dripping jewels of dew sparkles in the early morning sun.
So the banana spiders are out already? Must be time for fall!
Yes, Kim, isn’t it amazing? One morning this week I walked outside to the absence of humidity and the sky had a green aura like after a hurricane. I sensed the earth had tilted slightly; and now sunrise is after 6 a.m., not before.
Ooooh, I know they are necessary in the great scheme of things – but I HATE spiders! My sympathies are all with the locust. They have such a short life anyway, seems terrible to shorten it further!
I look forward to the first song of the cicada high in the live oak trees signaling the onslaught of summer; and then before you know it, the banana spider webs extend between the branches of the same oak trees, trapping the beautiful cicadas for food.
Noisy little buggers !!
One of my lovely memories of my indoor Siamese centers around a locust. She was sitting on the second floor balcony (which fronted a small, tree-lined creek) outside the kitchen, when she suddenly darted back in. You could almost hear her saying, “See, Momma, I told you I could catch a bird!” A locust had literally flown head first into her mouth and its wings were flapping on each side of her jaws. She was so upset with me when I took it away and released it!
Great story, Joan!
