More Pecky Cypress and a Scenic Boat Ride . . .

DAY THREE of the Deloutre Switch and The Miller Visit started early with the launching of the boat and heading South.

Sometime between days one and three, The Miller put up some beautiful cypress boards in the back bedroom.

The beadboard walls will not remain pink. I just can’t handle that Pepto color!

And a closer look at the gorgeous grain in this cypress plank.

The Miller made cypress paddles for Bayou Fabio and my boys and me. Nice, huh?

Here’s the bar between the dining and kitchen. I am still looking for a 2×18 plank to serve as the bar top.

And now for the Day 3 boat ride. I hope she got some good photos. I can’t wait for her to share some of them with me!!!

On our ride, we saw lots and lots of oyster luggers going round and round in circles, dredging up big clumps of oysters. The fishermen dump them on the deck and cull them by knocking them apart with hammers. The rejects go overboard and the good ones go into the burlap oyster sack. One can purchase a sack at the dock for about $30.00.

There were other interesting things to watch going on in the lake while the humans were gathering oysters. Shall I educate you?

The lakes were teeming with fish subsurface while shrimp pop at the surface. The fish come up to eat the shrimp, while the gulls are diving down to also eat the shrimp. Things go well for all involved, until the dolphins swim through to eat the fish. If the food chain would continue like that, then we would come along and eat the dolphins. Such is not the case with these bottle-nose.

However, we DO go after the same thing the dolphins are going after–in this case “speckled trout”. Most of the time, though, the trout found feeding under the birds are too small to keep–under 12 inches.

Late morning, we headed inland to a camp–the site of the tournament weigh-in, the boiled crawfish, and the bands. To be continued . . .

  1. I’m not really sure how you got those photos of the dolphins and I couldn’t. I don’t think you did this picture the same day.

What? You don’t think I can run the boat and snap off shots of dolphin dorsals? Why would you want to give away my secrets, huh? Ok, you got me. I took this a different day. But they were feeding, all the same!

  2. That “Pepto” dismal color really needs to go. It’s enough to make you sick after viewing the beautiful cypress.

    I totally agree, Steffi!

  3. Beautiful cypress paneling and beautiful cypress paddles. Lucky you! I hope you find the perfect plank for that bar counter.

  4. Always good to read about swimming, my ex was an olympic swimmer..
Can I ask though – how did you get this picked up and into google news?
Very impressive, is it something that is just up to Google or you actively created?

Welcome, and thanks for the compliments, although I’m not sure how we got on Google news. Could you comment further and explain what you are talking about, please?
