Creole Soul Potatoes (and a giveaway)

Okay, ladies and gents, it’s time for an easy new dish AND time to give away a little prize!

Have you ever stopped to ponder just how marvelous is a potato?  I mean, they come in all colors, shapes, and sizes.  And in the old days, they could be kept for months in a dark shed, root cellar, or basement.  Of course, with today’s refrigerators, it’s easy enough to stick them in there to prolong their lives, but I don’t recommend it, because the starches too quickly turn to sugar that way and change the flavor of the potato.  You might argue that point.  It’s okay.  You may.

Potatoes are just so versatile.  They can be cooked so many ways as their own side dish, as in today’s recipe, or they can be added to soups and stews to make them thick and hardy.  What’s not to like about a potato?

Recently, a resourceful lady named Shermona contacted me through my blog about her Creole Soul seasoning mix.  She shared with me how she grew up in Baton Rouge, moved to Pennsylvania, and just might make her way back to Louisiana.  Well, I’d like to give her a big bayou welcome by sharing one of her potato recipes with you today.  I cooked it for supper tonight, and they family LOVED it.  So please offer her a warm bayou welcome below.  And I offer her a big thanks for contacting me and sending me the seasonings.  She has more recipes on YouTube, so please check her out!

Also, she’s giving away a packet of her Creole Soul Seasoning to one lucky reader who leaves a comment below.  So, please bring on those comments, and in a few days, I will do a random drawing.

Creole Soul Potatoes

This recipe was developed by the creator of Creole Soul Seasoning

  • 12 small Potatoes
  • 1/4 cup Creole Soul Seasoning
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 1/4 cup Parsley – fresh, chopped
  • 1/4 cup Rosemary – fresh chopped ((I didn't have any, but it was great without))
  1. Boil and salt pot of water

  2. Cut potatoes in half and add to boiling water

  3. Boil until fork tender (about 15-20 minutes)

  4. Pour into strainer and return pot to medium heat, adding butter and oil

  5. Place potatoes sliced side down in the oil and butter to brown

  6. After they’re brown, add all seasoning and herbs and toss in pot

  7. Serve with ANYTHING!!!  We ate them with pork tenderloin, salad, and baked beans.  And they were delightful.

Quick, easy, and delicious!

After you win the packet of Creole Soul Seasoning, you must make these potatoes and come back to let us know how you liked them.  If you don’t win, then hop over to her site and order you some!

  1. I love these potatoes. I would like to try this recipe with the creole soul seasoning.

    1. Welcome to this bayou, Stephanie, and now you will have a chance to!! (By the way, I enjoy watching the reality show that is featuring Iberville Parish right now. Watched it last night, as a matter of fact. (I just don’t like the name of the show! But that little detective Aubrey, is cute as a button!!)

  2. I love roasted potatoes, boiled potatoes, mashed potatoes, baked potatoes and raw potatoes. These really look good. And since we are planning our boil soon, who says the potatoes have to be cooked with the crawfish? 🙂 I do have a few left in my big bag of small reds.

I’ll have to see about obtaining some of this seasoning.

    1. I thought about that movie, “Forest Gump”, and the part where the guy names all the ways you can prepare shrimp when I was writing this post, and I bet you did too when you started listing all the ways to cook potatoes!!! You might want to put your potatoes in the boil and make bisque if any are left over and wait for a chance to win the seasoning!!!!! Enjoy your crawfish and family!

  3. I am going to fix this recipe very soon! Thanks for sharing & welcome back to the bayou.

  4. They sound good, and the picture looks good also, easy and will go with anything you want.

    1. Yes, they go with anything! We had them with pork, but they’re just as good with chicken or steak, or just a veggie meal!

  5. I can see right now I’m going to have to plant some Rosemary and parsley. I generally use dried parsley and rosemary.
After watching the video with suggestions, I’m inclined to add a little sour cream to the finished potatoes. First to get some seasoning.

  6. Oh my, I adore any kind of fresh potatoes. This recipe sounds really good. Hoping to grow my own taters this year. Will try these next Friday.

  7. Potato, Potahto, I love them all and with creole seasoning. When I moved here from the South (Portland, OR) my husband had never heard of creole seasoning. We have standing orders for roux mix and various and sundry seasonings, but I have a LARGE PANTRY, with lots of room for lots more seasonings and I love them all. We literally put some kind of creole seasoning in everything except desserts. Even when we travel, we take them with us.

This looks like a wonderful recipe. Hmmmmm, having potatoes for breakfast tomorrow…. might have to pull out one of my seasonings and make the hubs ears burn a little. LOL.

    I LOVE YOUR BLOG!!!

    1. Thanks for coming back again and again, Jeri! And good luck in the drawing! If you don’t win, please order her seasoning, because I’m sure you’ll love it!

  8. I love Cajun and Creole seasoning. These potatoes look so good — I’ve always thrown a little Creole seasoning on when I fry potatoes!

  10. Thank you for naming your seasoning mix “CREOLE”; we are proud here in the bayou country of our heritage. Good luck with this product; I am anxious to try your potato seasoning.

    1. Hi Rita, and just to clarify–the Creole Seasoning is not my product, but this post is by way of introduction to the product made and sold by a woman who generously donated her product to this blog. I don’t give away products that I haven’t tried and tested first, so this recipe is hers, using her products, and I just cooked it in my Bayou Woman kitchen, took the photos, and shared her recipe. Shes thrilled at all the positive comments about the recipe and product! And of course, there is a link directly to her products for others to purchase and try! Thanks again for stopping by!

  11. Congrats DonnaKay! Let us know how good the seasoning is when you receive it.

I wish it was available in stores.
