Chapter 10 – The Wedding
1981 – Shortly after The Captain gave me the ruby engagement ring, we moved from my little apartment in Thibodaux to a rent house in his home community of Dulac, meaning “of the lake” because it sits on the edge of Lake Boudreaux. Bayou Grand Caillou, which means “big rock”, runs through the community. It’s…
Watch Discovery's Planet Green Saturday!
Last October, Bayou Grace Community Services opened their offices over in Chauvin, LA for Story Corps to set up their audio recording equipment and then invited folks to come do interviews about their families and how the oil spill had affected them. Now, a year later, Natural Resources Defense Council has teamed up with Discovery…
Name that Rooster!
Oh happy day! That’s what Gray Girl said to me when my new friends came and brought her a gift.

Spying the Reds
Sooooo, as some of you may know, I have not done “fishing charters” for about six years or so. Without my Termite deckhand, it just got to be too much for me, especially in the heat of summer. The charter guide’s day starts super early and doesn’t end when the customers get off the boat….

Merry Christmas
It’s almost midnight on Christmas Eve. The flurry of preparations has come to a halt (for now) and almost nothing is stirring. I’ve been so busy that I’ve not had the chance to make a special holiday post. Here in bayou country, we do things a little differently. Santa rides a boat, and the boat…
Swamp People Visit Houma
By now, most of you have watched the most-watched show in the history of the History Channel, “Swamp People”. If you haven’t, then tune in this Thursday at 8:00 Central Time. These alligator hunters have become local heroes, and are just about as real as they come.
Great pictures!! I love the picture of Miah relaxing in the swing.
Fall, Fairs…fun times… kids all ages!
I’ve never seen a kid so completely relaxed on a moving ride as Miah! He has some serious coolness goin’ on
Tilt-a-Whirl! I love the tilt-a-whirl, and it looks like the boys did, too!
looks like they had a blast!
Hey, I’m sending your information to a friend who has moved to Louisiana. She homeschools and I think your tours, etc would fit well into her curriculum, Wendy.
Oh, that sounds great Sue!!! I’d be glad to help in any way I can! Thanks! ( Did you know I homeschooled all my kids?)
I did not know that. I’ll pass that tidbit on too. I hope she decides to make the trip to your place. How cool would that be, to have a Joe’s Run girl meet my blog friend Wendy!
Gee, no warning???
I am getting really old but looking at carnival rides or hearing music still makes me very dizzy and ill.
Still thinking of being a carney when I grow up though.
Cooking trout this week.
Trout yum. Termite looked around at the “Carnies” hawking their games and said, “Wow, this must be a really depressing lifestyle. 🙁 “
I too love the Swing photo. Did he pose for you or is that his “style” of relaxing on this ride?
It was so cute!! Every time he came around to me, he was in a different pose!! There were four altogether I believe! He’s a real camera ham!
Love fairs. Popcorn, cotton candy, sausage on a stick, etc. and lots of lbs.
It has been years since I went to one. Can’t take that walking any more.
Looks like Miah was in his element! Bet he had a blast.
Wow our fair is in August and in Oklahoma that means it’s 104 degrees and 210 humidity, lol. The state fair was last week and it was beautiful weather. Looks like the boys had a blast.
Cuuute! The last two years when I’ve gone with him, the Tilt-a-Whirl is the only one I ride! (Always been my favorite carnival ride… I remember riding it with YOU! At Hamel’s Park, maybe?) Anyway, Miah and I can get that thing spinning something fierce! Love it. 🙂
You should have posted the other swing poses! *lol*
Now, I’m off to find your house post to see if I can find the pictures of your kitchen counters. I’ve been meaning to ask you who did them because I want new ones. Email me!
