Crawfish, Pirates, and Cows! Oh my!
Not sure how things are in your neck of the woods when it comes to Halloween, but it is a BIG holiday down the bayou. Some folks go all out and stuff clothing to look like real people and place them on their front porches. One family stuffed male clothing, added a milk-jug head, and propped the poor fellow on top of a riding lawn mower in the front yard. Porches are covered in spider webs. Yards are full of grave markers–some with names and messages.
Name the Bird Contest WINNER!
This is an appeal to all the faithful Bayou Woman readers, and even those lurkers who are always here behind the scenes but never step out into the light of the commenting world: Please tell us what kind of bird this is! My birding expert, using the internet, has now made a positive ID of…
Somebody, please give that dog a drink!
Yes, everyone, this is the big yellow dog that took up here shortly after our “Baby” was taken from us. We tried returning her to the owner a couple times, and she kept coming back. We gave up and she won her boy, Termite! I know she is poor looking, but we have wormed her…
Spring News!
Well, I had been preparing to post about a recent bass fishing trip with my oldest son and then a photo post about all the different wildflowers that have cropped up in our yard this spring, and then I guess I just sort of got a touch of spring fever. Well, spring fever and a…
Chapter 6 – The Captain
We hadn’t gone far up the bayou, when Roscoe pulled up in front of the small local store and gas pumps asking me if I wanted something to drink. Never one to drink much but coffee in the morning, but not wanting to hurt his feelings, I said sure–anything. Quick as a flash, he was…

Bayou Woman shares a holiday appetizer recipe.
Great pictures!! I love the picture of Miah relaxing in the swing.
Fall, Fairs…fun times… kids all ages!
I’ve never seen a kid so completely relaxed on a moving ride as Miah! He has some serious coolness goin’ on
Tilt-a-Whirl! I love the tilt-a-whirl, and it looks like the boys did, too!
looks like they had a blast!
Hey, I’m sending your information to a friend who has moved to Louisiana. She homeschools and I think your tours, etc would fit well into her curriculum, Wendy.
Oh, that sounds great Sue!!! I’d be glad to help in any way I can! Thanks! ( Did you know I homeschooled all my kids?)
I did not know that. I’ll pass that tidbit on too. I hope she decides to make the trip to your place. How cool would that be, to have a Joe’s Run girl meet my blog friend Wendy!
Gee, no warning???
I am getting really old but looking at carnival rides or hearing music still makes me very dizzy and ill.
Still thinking of being a carney when I grow up though.
Cooking trout this week.
Trout yum. Termite looked around at the “Carnies” hawking their games and said, “Wow, this must be a really depressing lifestyle. 🙁 “
I too love the Swing photo. Did he pose for you or is that his “style” of relaxing on this ride?
It was so cute!! Every time he came around to me, he was in a different pose!! There were four altogether I believe! He’s a real camera ham!
Love fairs. Popcorn, cotton candy, sausage on a stick, etc. and lots of lbs.
It has been years since I went to one. Can’t take that walking any more.
Looks like Miah was in his element! Bet he had a blast.
Wow our fair is in August and in Oklahoma that means it’s 104 degrees and 210 humidity, lol. The state fair was last week and it was beautiful weather. Looks like the boys had a blast.
Cuuute! The last two years when I’ve gone with him, the Tilt-a-Whirl is the only one I ride! (Always been my favorite carnival ride… I remember riding it with YOU! At Hamel’s Park, maybe?) Anyway, Miah and I can get that thing spinning something fierce! Love it. 🙂
You should have posted the other swing poses! *lol*
Now, I’m off to find your house post to see if I can find the pictures of your kitchen counters. I’ve been meaning to ask you who did them because I want new ones. Email me!
