Adventures of Chaoui – Coon naps
It has been a wonderful experience as we watch the development of this wild creature – who doesn’t know she’s a wild creature. When we first found her, she was very wobbly. Now she walks, romps, and climbs. Her little palms feel like leather, and her sharp claws help her cling to anything. After a…
Don't you just love a good mystery?
Not a murder mystery, silly. A plant mystery–my favorite kind. I passed by this plant, see, that had these big leaves, see (James Cagney voice. Anybody know who that is?) and thought silently to myself, see, that I didn’t recognize those leaves, see? You have to remember (back to my own self now) that flood…
How is concrete made?
This is the site that greeted me when I drove up to the concrete plant today to pay my bill for the concrete tomorrow. Piles of sand, pea gravel, and limestone. Then along came this big front end loader and . . . dumped a load of limstone in the hopper . . . and…
Cypress Cottage Living Room Finished!
For those of you landing here on the bayou for the first time: Family, friends, and I have been totally renovating an 80-year-old cypress house since March of this year. If you would like to catch up on the journey, just find “cypress cottage” over in the right-hand menu and you can see our progress….
What would you do if . . .
you and a friend, or a spouse, or your family were coming to the wetlands of South Louisiana? I would seriously like to know, based on your knowledge of this area or what you’ve learned from this blog, what would you like to do and see while down here for a few days? Would you…
A move, a meter, and a Christmas past
A MOVE: I moved a bunch of stuff yesterday. Today, it took me six trips to get finished. My bed is covered with stuff, but you know good and well my computer is set up! We are officially back “down the bayou”. And Camp Dularge is going up eight feet in the next week. Posts…

Great pictures!! I love the picture of Miah relaxing in the swing.
Fall, Fairs…fun times… kids all ages!
I’ve never seen a kid so completely relaxed on a moving ride as Miah! He has some serious coolness goin’ on
Tilt-a-Whirl! I love the tilt-a-whirl, and it looks like the boys did, too!
looks like they had a blast!
Hey, I’m sending your information to a friend who has moved to Louisiana. She homeschools and I think your tours, etc would fit well into her curriculum, Wendy.
Oh, that sounds great Sue!!! I’d be glad to help in any way I can! Thanks! ( Did you know I homeschooled all my kids?)
I did not know that. I’ll pass that tidbit on too. I hope she decides to make the trip to your place. How cool would that be, to have a Joe’s Run girl meet my blog friend Wendy!
Gee, no warning???
I am getting really old but looking at carnival rides or hearing music still makes me very dizzy and ill.
Still thinking of being a carney when I grow up though.
Cooking trout this week.
Trout yum. Termite looked around at the “Carnies” hawking their games and said, “Wow, this must be a really depressing lifestyle. 🙁 “
I too love the Swing photo. Did he pose for you or is that his “style” of relaxing on this ride?
It was so cute!! Every time he came around to me, he was in a different pose!! There were four altogether I believe! He’s a real camera ham!
Love fairs. Popcorn, cotton candy, sausage on a stick, etc. and lots of lbs.
It has been years since I went to one. Can’t take that walking any more.
Looks like Miah was in his element! Bet he had a blast.
Wow our fair is in August and in Oklahoma that means it’s 104 degrees and 210 humidity, lol. The state fair was last week and it was beautiful weather. Looks like the boys had a blast.
Cuuute! The last two years when I’ve gone with him, the Tilt-a-Whirl is the only one I ride! (Always been my favorite carnival ride… I remember riding it with YOU! At Hamel’s Park, maybe?) Anyway, Miah and I can get that thing spinning something fierce! Love it. 🙂
You should have posted the other swing poses! *lol*
Now, I’m off to find your house post to see if I can find the pictures of your kitchen counters. I’ve been meaning to ask you who did them because I want new ones. Email me!
